WHAT IS POWER?
Being strong means having the measurable blessings of the world in one way, concepts such as authority, power, domination, position, fame, career, money, muscle strength. And for the sake of all these gains, that is, with the intoxication of being strong, people create a virtual living space by covering their own truth and galloping after it without question. Here is a typical example of this…
‘ONE ARM CHAMPION’
A boy in Japan was in a car accident when he was ten years
old and lost his left arm. However, the boy had a great ideal… He wanted to be
a good judo master when he grew up. His father, who saw that the boy’s dream
was destroyed with the loss of his left arm, fell into a great depression, went
to a famous judo teacher in Japan, thinking that there might be a ray of hope,
and asked if there was anything to be done by explaining the child’s condition.
The judo teacher said: “Bring the boy and see.”
The next day, father and son appeared before the teacher.
Hodja looked at the boy and said: “Okay.”
“Bring the boy’s things tomorrow, we’ll start work.”
The next day, when the boy came, his teacher showed him a
move and said: “Study this move.” The child practiced the same movement for a
week. Then he went to his teacher and said, “I learned this move, won’t you
show another move?” he asked.
The teacher’s answer was: “Keep working”.
After two months, three months, six months, the child has
completed one year in school. He repeated the same movement throughout the
year. He went back to his teacher:
“Hodja, I’ve been working on the same movement for a year,
and I’m doing well. Won’t you show me a
new move?”
“You practice the same move, my son. When the time comes, we
will take a new action.”
After two years, three years, the boy completed five years
under the supervision of his teacher.
One day, his teacher came to the boy and said: “Get ready!”
said.
“I signed you up for the big tournament. You’re going to
play tomorrow. “The boy is shocked.
He doesn’t have a left arm, and he only knows one move in
judo. He thought that he would not have a chance in the tournament attended by
famous judokas;
But he did not speak of his respect for his teacher.
On the first day of the tournament, the young man had his
first match.
He made the only move he knew to his opponent and
Won. Then the second, third game... Quarter-finals,
semi-finals and
Unexpectedly, he qualified for the final.
In the final, the young man faced the country’s unbeaten
champion for the last ten years. The opponent is a master at judo. The young
man could not stand it and ran to his teacher.
“Hodja,” he said, “we have come this far by chance. But take
a look at my opponent, champion of the years. And I am missing an arm and there
is only one movement that I know of. That’s enough for me. Let me not go out
and be a disgrace. Let me withdraw from the tournament.”
“No,” said his teacher. “Even if you are defeated, be
defeated with your honor.”
The child was helpless and the match started.
After taking the trophy, he ran to his teacher:
“Sir. How did this work? I don’t have an arm and I only know
one move. How did I win?” “Look, son,” said his teacher; “First, you’ve been
working on the same movement for five years. You’ve worked so hard that now
there’s no one on earth who can do that move better than you. Second, that
movement has only one counter-movement.
That’s why your opponent has to hold you by the left arm!”
The lad again made the only move he knew and
He became the champion by knocking down his opponent in the
move.

POWER AND DOMİNATİON
The word “power” suggests something direct and here in its effect, something more directly compelling than power. Because power in lower and crude expressions is always better described as power; For example, catching and bringing prey to the mouth is accomplished by force.
Power becomes power when it gives itself time, but when the
moment of crisis, the moment of irreversible decision comes, power returns to
naked power. Power is more general and operates over a larger space than power;
Power includes much more, but is less dynamic. Power is more ceremonial, there
is even a certain measure of patience. The distinction between power and power
can be exemplified very simply by the relationship between cat and mouse.
The cat uses its power to capture the mouse, capture it,
hold it in its claws, and ultimately kill it. But there is another factor in
playing with the mouse. The cat lets the mouse go, giving it a chance to escape
a little, or even turn around; during this time the mouse is no longer subject
to power. However, it is still within the power [field] of the cat and can be
caught again at any time. If it moves away immediately, it escapes the cat’s
power domain; but it is still within the domain of the cat, until it reaches the
point where it is no longer reachable. The space dominated by the cat, the
moments of hope it gives to the mouse, while keeping a close eye on it all this
time and never giving up its interest and intent to destroy it; all of these,
namely space, hope, intent to watch and destroy, can be called the actual body
of power, or, more simply, power itself.
Thus, unlike power, there is a certain extension in space
and time inherent in power. I suggested earlier that the mouth is a prototype
of the prison. In any case, it’s between the two. There is a relationship that
will serve to exemplify the relationship between power and power. Once in the
mouth of the enemy, the victim has no hope because he has neither the time nor
the place to maneuver. In these two respects, prison is like an extension of
the mouth. Just like the mouse in front of the cat, the prisoner can walk a
little back and forth, turn his back on his guards; He has time before him to
hope to escape or be released. The whole mechanism of the prison where the cell
in which he is locked is located seems to be tuned to its destruction, and the
prisoner is always conscious of this, even when this mechanism is not actually
functioning.(E. Canetti / Mass and Power)
